Check out this recent article in the Queens Gazette. On Saturday, April 15, Garden School joined 249 speakers of the highest caliber from twenty-nine schools from the Eastern half of the United States in Allentown, NJ for the English Speaking Union of the United States’ Eastern Regional Tournament. (https://www.esuus.org/…/middle_scho…/mspdp_esu_championship/) This tournament was comprised of the best two or three-person teams that a school can field.
For the first time at regionals, Garden placed a speaker in the top 25 – and we placed two! Liam M. came in 24th, which was our highest-ever finish at a regional tournament – until his teammate, Joelle G., came in 8th! Joelle is the first speaker in Garden history to crack the top ten at a regional tournament. Her performance is bound to go down as one of the bravest in the history of this institution, as she was extremely ill the night before and right before the first of five debate rounds. Her will and determination was simply breathtaking, and embodied all that is right and true about Garden School.
To Joelle, Liam, the rest of our debaters, and our magnificent judges, without whom this team would not be where it is, we, the coaches can only say, Thank you. You’re absolute magic.
