IRA Charitable Rollover

If you are 70 1/2 or older, you can donate directly from your traditional or Roth IRA to Garden School, up to $100,000. If you have also reached your required beginning date, this can be a strategic way to fulfill your required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year while potentially reducing your taxable income, as the donated amount may satisfy all or part of your RMD obligation. To qualify for this method of giving:

·       You must be at least 70 1/2 years of age when the gift is made

·       Transfer must be made directly from the IRA administrator to the charity

·       The gifts from the IRA cannot exceed $100,000 per person ($200,000 total for a couple with separate IRAs) in a given year

·       They can only be outright gifts and cannot fund a Charitable Remainder Trust, Gift Annuity, or Pooled Income Fund

·       No goods or services can be given in exchange

·       The gifts cannot be made to a donor advised fund, a supporting organization, or a private foundation

Ask your financial institution to make the check payable to: Garden School EIN 11-1631783. They should mail it to the following address:

Garden School

33-16 79th Street

Jackson Heights, NY 11372

IRA administrators don’t always include the donor’s name on distribution checks. If you’re planning to make a distribution to us from your IRA, please let us know in advance so that we’ll be able to identify your gift. Contact development@gardenschool.org any questions, or to notify us of an incoming distribution.

Donate Property

Garden School accepts gifts-in-kind that are appropriate to its needs. Gifts-in-kind may include (but are not limited to) works of art, scientific equipment, books, and real estate. While Garden School is deeply grateful for the generosity of its donors, we are not able to accept every gift due to the limited space on our campus and the changing nature of our students’ needs. We will make every effort to match your gift with one of our many needs. Garden School reserves the right to review in-kind gift offers and ascertain the potential costs and risks associated with each piece of property before accepting a gift. In-kind donations are often tax-deductible under IRS rules based on the fair market value. We encourage you to consult your tax adviser to determine whether your gift is tax-deductible. To initiate such a gift, please contact development@gardenschool.org

Memorial and Honorary Gifts

If you would like to encourage others to contribute to Cooper in memory of a loved one, we recommend sharing the following language:
