First Grade Assignments

Week of June 1st

We did it! Great job parents! It wasn’t easy, but you all did a great job homeschooling your children in these difficult times. As this most unusual school year comes to an end, I would like to thank all for the support you have provided throughout the year. It has been a pleasure getting to know your children and their families. I wish you all the best, safest and healthiest summer.  Please feel free to continue to share your connections, pictures and stories throughout your endeavors.

As we wrap up this week, please remember to find any library books and hard cover Treasures Reading Series books that need to be returned to school.  Over the summer students should continue with journal writing, reading and math games to keep their skills sharp. If you need help with ideas or resources please feel fee to reach out.   This last week I would like the students to have some fun along with their studies. Tuesday June 2, we will have a Talent Zoom show during 10:00 am music class.  Please keep sending pictures of their work.  Make sure to scroll all the way down for updates from other teachers.

Music: Week of June 1st

Hello, students and parents. Below is the link to a video pertaining to Joni Mitchell, an artist whom I would argue was without peer. I have once again included close captioning/subtitles, which I believe may be helpful (if they don’t appear, you can click on “cc” on the bottom strip of the video). I am not giving you any assignment to accompany the video- just a coloring page you can do at your leisure.

Week Of May 26th

The last few weeks of school are usually quite eventful in normal circumstances.  Typically we would have had our Walkathon, Spring Show, closing field trip , and opportunities for transition and closure. In lieu, these last 2 weeks we will have a Zoom visit from Mrs. James to familiarize students and parents moving up, and Tuesday June 2, we will have a Talent Zoom show during music class. Performers should practice their 2-3 minute act and in front of computer screen. Please continue to email any concerns and keep sending pictures of their work.  Make sure to scroll all the way down for updates from other teachers. I’ve condensed classwork and homework to daily assignments.

Hello everyone here is a link for anyone who missed the Zoom.

Art Update May 12

Hello everyone I hope everyone is doing well.  This week I want to go back to drawing and try something called metamorphosis art.  For this project I want you will transform an object into another object.  The way to do this is by drawing several drawings that gradually turn one object into another.  I know sounds hard, but I think the examples below will make this assignment make sense.  There is no limit on the amount of drawings you can do, but you should have at least three.  You are free to use any medium and size paper of your choice.  I remember doing a project like this in middle school and I loved it, I hope you do too. Due Date it Tuesday May 19th.

Please Click Here for examples

Hello, 1st Grade students and parents.  I am posting a link to a video about one of the most notable artists in Popular Music, Stevie Wonder.  I have included close captioning/subtitles, and this may help you in terms of picking up information and understanding what is said (if they don’t appear, you can click on “cc” on the bottom strip of the video).  I am also attaching a Stevie Wonder coloring page.  For those of you who are feeling ambitious, I will include a puzzle worksheet that I gave to the 2nd Graders; this is an optional assignment.  The video is over 12 minutes long, but all the answers to the worksheet are revealed by just after the 8-minute mark; you don’t have to watch the entire video.  Best of luck!
