Meet the CITs

Meet the CITs

Garden’s Summer Camp Counselor in Training aka “CITs” program gives teens in grade 9-12 an opportunity for professional work experience. They learn about time management, child care, and the education of the whole child. It is our hope that our CITs leave with skills that they can apply in their daily lives inside and outside of the classroom. Let’s meet some of our CITs. Thank you Carolina, Claire, Nina and Rafael, we are grateful for all your hard work these last two weeks.

Nina will be entering her freshman year at Garden this fall. She is from Jackson Heights and wanted to be a CIT because she thought it would be really fun to work with young children this summer. Her favorite book is Pride and Prejudice and you might find her jamming out to Cheerleader while geeking out on DIY crafts munching on her favorite snack, popcorn. This teen loves cars, plays a mean game of blackjack and plays the piano beautifully.

Carolina will be a freshman at Peekskill HS this fall which is in Westchester county. She loves to geek out on books while snacking on Goldfish. Her favorite part about being a CIT is working with the kids and swimming twice a day! Carolina is a twin and also plays the flute.

Rafael Compton will start his freshman year at Peekskill HS this fall. Rafael’s cousin and Aunt work at the camp so he was excited to take part in our CIT program. Rafael is a computer whiz and also enjoys snacking on Goldfish. His favorite part about being a CIT is having fun with the kids.

Claire is a rising ninth grader at Garden School. She thought her babysitting experience would compliment the skills she is learning as a CIT and is excited to be working with the 3 and 4 year olds. Claire’s favorite book is The Perks of Being a Wallflower and also loves popcorn. Claire has a beautiful voice, plays competitive volleyball, loves art, and has the same birthday as Charli D’Amelio.
